If I bring it up from there then shut it down it goes away until I start it up again from the desktop or upon another boot up.
However, upon a power-up boot or any reboot GE is in fact started in the background. I just installed GE 7.17.2.0 on my Win 10 laptop and the "Keep GE running in background" is NOT checked. I did the update, trouble free, and the running in the background was NOT checked after the installation!. This version may have fixed the fact the GE was in that Startup group of some Windows versions, in spite of "running in the background" being disabled."
